Can you use a Fire TV Stick for digital signage?
Sometimes, but only when the exact device is Android-based and Screenfolk has qualified that model and software build. The 2025 Fire TV Stick 4K Select runs Vega OS, cannot install the current Android APK, and is unsupported. Amazon Signage Stick support is being evaluated separately and is not promised. If the hardware is uncertain, use the browser player on a computer or choose another qualified player path.
The current pilot is sideloaded
Screenfolk’s Android APK is intended for managed founding-pilot setups, not presented as a universally available Amazon Appstore app.
Consumer-device limits remain
Boot restrictions, the Home button, launcher behavior, OS updates, and inactivity prompts prevent a universal unattended-kiosk guarantee.

Which Fire TV devices work with Screenfolk?
The current Screenfolk Fire TV player is an Android APK. That makes Android-based Fire OS a prerequisite, but it does not make every Android-based Fire TV device supported. A founding-pilot device must be explicitly tested by exact model, Fire OS build, and WebView version before Screenfolk treats it as qualified hardware.
The important exception is the 2025 Fire TV Stick 4K Select. It uses Amazon's Vega OS, not Android-based Fire OS, and cannot install the Screenfolk Android APK. It is unsupported. The Amazon Signage Stick is a different product and is only being evaluated; this page does not promise support for it.

What does the Screenfolk Fire TV pilot app do?
The pilot app is a native Android TV and Fire OS shell around the hosted Screenfolk player. It provides a remote-friendly setup screen, keeps playback visible in immersive mode, retains the paired player URL and browser storage, and limits top-level navigation to Screenfolk HTTPS pages.
It also supports the same local-cache strategy as the browser player. After a complete sync on a qualified device, uploaded media can remain available during a temporary network outage. That is different from online-only content, which still needs a connection. For a full explanation, see how Screenfolk offline playback works.
TV-friendly setup
Enter or provision the clean Screenfolk player URL, confirm it on the television, and complete the normal web pairing flow.
Fullscreen playback
The shell uses immersive playback and asks Android to keep the screen awake while the player is visible.
Local browser storage
Cookies, local storage, service workers, and cache storage support pairing and saved-media playback on qualified hardware.
Recovery attempts
The app retries bounded network failures, responds when connectivity returns, and attempts a best-effort relaunch after boot.

What are the limits of using a Fire TV Stick for signage?
An ordinary Fire TV app cannot take full ownership of the device. Pressing Home returns to Amazon's launcher. Fire OS versions can restrict an app from launching itself in the background after boot. Amazon can also show an inactivity prompt, and a software or WebView update can change behavior.
For those reasons, Screenfolk does not promise universal unattended recovery on consumer Fire Sticks. Every candidate model should be bench-tested under the actual conditions that matter: power removal, reboot, Wi-Fi loss, long offline playback, app and WebView failure, OS update, remote input, heat, and the display's resolution.
Home cannot be intercepted
A guest or staff member can leave the player with the remote’s Home button, and an ordinary app cannot block that action.
Boot relaunch is best effort
Fire OS background-launch rules mean startup recovery can vary by OS build and device state.
Prompts can interrupt
Amazon may show an “Are you still watching?” prompt after long periods without interaction.
Updates can change behavior
A device is not qualified once forever; important Fire OS and WebView updates need regression testing.

Complete the first media sync, then test reboot, power loss, network loss, remote buttons, offline playback, and overnight idle behavior on the actual display.
